“Verified” is not one checkbox. In Colombia, you can verify different parts of the story through different public or professional sources: whether a health professional is authorized to practice, whether a provider/facility and service appear in the health-service registry, and whether a surgeon appears in the Colombian plastic-surgery society’s member directory.
Do not let one result stand in for another.
A ReTHUS result is not a facility inspection. An SCCP membership result is not a personalized safety clearance. A clinic’s REPS entry is not proof that every person marketed on Instagram is the doctor who will operate.
The three-source Colombia check
Search ReTHUS for the individual professional
ReTHUS is Colombia’s national health-workforce registry. The Ministry of Health describes it as the information system for health personnel who have met the requirements to practice a health profession or occupation. It also contains certain disciplinary-sanction information reported by competent bodies.
Match the full name carefully. If the clinic markets one surgeon but the paperwork lists another, verify the person on the paperwork too.
Check specialty context separately
Do not stop at “doctor found.” Cosmetic surgery requires more specific questions about formal training and the scope of practice relevant to the proposed operation. The SCCP searchable directory is a useful professional-society cross-check for plastic surgeons who are members.
Membership is not the same as government licensure and is not a guarantee of outcomes. It is another independent data point.
Verify the facility in REPS
REPS is the public Registro Especial de Prestadores de Servicios de Salud. The Ministry describes it as the official source for providers that are registered and enabled, with information about sites, services and capacity. Ask the clinic for the exact surgical-facility name before you search.
If the package only gives a brand name or hotel-style recovery-house name, that is not enough. You want the place where the operation itself will happen.
What to save before you pay
Exactly as it appears on the surgical documents.
Record the name/date you checked; do not rely on a cropped screenshot sent by a salesperson.
Ask what formal plastic-surgery training and credentials apply.
When applicable, use the society’s own public directory rather than a logo on a clinic page.
Name, address and the planned service location.
Check the provider/site/service rather than assuming a hospital partnership.
How to interpret a mismatch
A mismatch is a reason to ask a precise question, not a reason to invent an explanation. Common examples:
- The Instagram surgeon and contract surgeon differ. Ask who will actually operate and why the names differ.
- The brand name is not the facility name. Ask for the legal/provider name used in REPS and the exact surgical address.
- The surgeon is in ReTHUS but not the SCCP directory. Do not make up a conclusion. Ask about formal specialty training and verify the documentation through appropriate sources.
- The clinic sends a screenshot instead of a link or searchable name. Repeat the check yourself on the official source.
What no registry can tell you
Credential checks are necessary, but they do not answer whether you are a good candidate, whether a particular technique is appropriate, how much fat can safely be removed in your case, or how a surgeon will handle your individual anatomy. They also do not tell you whether the clinic’s marketing photos are representative.
That is why the next layer is the consultation: Who provides anesthesia? What facility will be used? What is the surgeon’s plan for your actual zones? How do they handle complications? What is their follow-up plan for a traveler? And what would make them say “no” to surgery?
Verify before the deposit, then verify the paperwork again
Do the registry work before money changes hands. Then repeat the identity check when you receive your consent forms, facility documents and final schedule. If a named person or site changes, the original verification does not automatically transfer to the substitute.
