The surgeon fee is the number everyone quotes and the number that matters least once you add everything else. Here is the full accounting, for both a domestic operation and a trip abroad.

Below is a like-for-like total using the midpoint of each typical 2026 range: a surgeon fee, two stages of compression garments, a twelve-session lymphatic massage course, and travel where applicable. These are ranges compiled from published pricing, not quotes, and your actual figures will differ.
For reference, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons puts the average surgeon’s fee for liposuction at $4,711 and notes explicitly that the figure excludes anesthesia, operating room and facility costs. That is a single-area fee. What the gap does and does not represent
The price difference is not a quality discount. It is mostly the cost of operating a surgical practice in each country: staff salaries, facility overhead, and — the largest single factor — medical malpractice exposure and the insurance pricing that follows from it. A Colombian surgeon with equivalent training carries a fraction of the fixed cost per case that a US surgeon does.
What the gap does not cover is proximity. If something goes wrong at week three, a domestic patient drives to the office. An international patient buys a flight or manages the problem over video with a local doctor who did not perform the operation. Price that scenario honestly before you decide.

When a US quote wins. If your domestic surgeon quotes near the bottom of the US range, offers transparent bundled pricing, and you would need to travel with a companion, the international saving can shrink to a few thousand dollars — for which you are trading local follow-up access. That trade is sometimes worth it and sometimes not. Run your own numbers before assuming abroad is cheaper.
Questions that change the price
Two quotes for “lipo 360” are frequently quoting two different operations. Before comparing figures, get written answers to these:
- Exactly which zones are included — name all six, individually
- Which technique is priced in, and what an upgrade to ultrasound-assisted would add
- Whether anesthesia, the facility fee, and the anesthesiologist are bundled or separate
- Whether garments, foams, and any post-op massage sessions are included
- What the policy is on revision — who pays, and within what window
- Whether fat transfer is included, and if so, the planned volume and placement plane
A pricing floor is a real signal. A 360 quoted far below the bottom of the range in any market is not a bargain — it is usually an indication that something has been removed from the operation: zones, anesthesia coverage, facility grade, or surgeon experience. Ask what specifically makes the price possible and evaluate the answer.
